School Bus Crashes Due to Icy Road Conditions; Seven Injured
ALLAMAKEE COUNTY, Iowa - Seven people were injured after a school bus wreck due to icy road conditions Friday morning, authorities said.
Officials responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Hawkweed Drive and Ludlow Road at about 7:15 a.m. According to authorities, a Postville Community School District school bus was travelling eastbound on Hawkweed Drive approaching the intersection of Ludlow Road when it was unable to stop at the intersection due to the icy condition of the roadway.
The school bus crossed Ludlow Road, entered the ditch and continued down an embankment, officials said. The bus came to a rest in a residential yard.
Five students and the bus driver were transported to Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon for minor injuries, and later released, authorities said. Another student was initially transported to Veterans Memorial Hospital, but later transferred to a La Crosse hospital.
The accident remains under investigation by the Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office.
