TIFFIN, Iowa - In his first visit to the state since his Iowa caucus win, former GOP primary candidate Rick Santorum told a crowd in Tiffin that Iowa will be key to this year’s presidential election.
“This is the most important election of your lifetime,” Santorum said to supporters during a meet-and-greet barbecue at Bella Sala on Tuesday. ”Iowa is one of those states that we’ve got to win. Iowa is one of those states that can win, and we need to.”
As part of that effort, Santorum said he plans to return to Iowa at least three to four times before the general election in November to mobilize people to vote in the general election and get involved politically. He said he also plans to speak to supporters in other “swing” states, and his team has started a new program — called patriot voices – to mobilize conservative voters for the election.
In addition to his stop in Tiffin, Santorum will also spend the next two days campaigning for congressional candidates John Archer and Ben Lange, as part of an effort to increase conservative majorities in Washington.
“This is part of our strategy, to not just hold onto the house, but to expand conservative majorities in the house,” Santorum said. ”We have majorities, but it’s a tenuous conserve majority. We need more strong conviction conservatives, patriots, who will go to Washington D.C. and make difficult decisions that have to be made in order for us to be free.”
