Cedar Rapids Celebrates St. Pat's with SaPaDaPaSo Parade Today
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The 38th annual SaPaDaPaSo Parade will run through downtown Cedar Rapids today. The parade is held every year on March 17th rain or shine.
It will start at 1 p.m., but preparations will start hours before.
From 11 am. to about 3 p.m., 4th Avenue SE - the 500-700 blocks, 6th Street SE – 300 and 400 blocks and 7th Street SE – 300 and 400 blocks will be closed to traffic for parade staging and disbanding.
From 1 p.m. to about 3 p.m., 2nd Avenue SE, 3rd Avenue SE, 2nd Street SE, 5th Street SE and 6th Street SE will be close for the parade route.
SaPaDaPaSo has sponsored every Saint Pattie's day parade in Cedar Rapids since 1977! The "Saint Patrick's Day Parade Society" started on a cocktail napkin in 1976. The name SaPaDaPaSo was coined by taking the first two letters of the group's new name.
