CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Rock bands played Saturday hoping that music soothes a Cedar Rapids man with a rare and incurable disease.

The Chrome Horse Saloon in Cedar Rapids hosted the benefit for Rob Ramirez. He has scleroderma, a condition that attacks the skin and internal organs.

Bands started at noon Saturday and played until closing, raising money to help with Ramirez's medical bills.

Ramirez has been playing music in Cedar Rapids for more than 2 decades. That's why so many bands plugged in and played tonight.

"You know it's just awesome to see a smile on his face and that's what it's all about," said organizer Al Finley.

"I didn't know just by smiling and being nice to people it would affect people like it has," said Ramirez. "There's a lot of people that have been coming and want to help and support me and that's awesome. That's a great feeling."

Ramirez played the final song in tonight's concert, as the bass guitarist for Skin Kandy.
