Roberts Dairy Products Changing to Hiland Dairy in May

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa- The Roberts Dairy brand will disappear in May, replaced by Hiland Dairy on all milk and dairy products.

Roberts Dairy has been a division of Prairie Farms-Hiland Dairy since 1981. Hiland Dairy announced the change on Thursday, saying it will solidify the synergy between two of the country's dairy producers under a single name.

"This will be a great match of farmer-owned dairies," said Gary Aggus, president and general manager of Hiland Dairy. "Blending the Hiland and Roberts Dairy brands is a natural progression."

Hiland Dairy has been marketing milk and other dairy products in the Midwest for more than 75 years. The 11-plant operation has locations in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma.

Hiland Dairy has customers in Iowa, Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming. The company's products include milk, ice cream, yogurt, cottage cheese, sour cream and dips, half and half, whipping cream, orange juice, butter and cheese.

Aggus said the only thing changing is the label on the package.

"It will continue to produce milk in Omaha and Kansas City," he said.

Roberts Dairy closed its plant on North Dodge Street in Iowa City in July 2011. The 77-year-old dairy was operated as a joint venture between Prairie Farms Dairy of Carlinville, Ill. and Dairy Farms of America, which is owned by dairy farmers.
