Road Grader Struck by Train in Black Hawk County

    JESUP, Iowa - One man was taken to the hospital after the road grader he was driving was struck by a train.

    At about 9:45 a.m. Monday, the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene on Nesbit Road just north of Dubuque Road near Jesup.

    A road grader was being driven south on Nesbit Road by Black Hawk County employee Rick Wermerskirchen, 51, when it was struck by a westbound train while crossing the railroad tracks.

    Wermerskirchen was transported by ambulance to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo for multiple injuries, although none are believed to be life threatening. No one in the train was injured.
