Retired Teacher to Seek Iowa House Seat

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A retired teacher and coach from New Hampton says he's running for a House seat in northern Iowa left vacant by a resignation.

Tom Sauser, a Democrat says he will run in the special election to fill the seat in House District 52.

Rep. Brian Quirk, also a Democrat who won election to the seat in the general election Nov. 6 announced his resignation on Wednesday.

No Republican candidate has yet come forward to express interest in the seat.

The district covers all of Chickasaw and Floyd Counties as well as the eastern portion of Cerro Gordo County.

Gov. Terry Branstad will set a special election date.
