DUBUQUE, Iowa - The weekend rain hurt businesses hoping to make a buck on Memorial Day Weekend.
Rows of boats sat still, collecting rain at the Yardarm Marina.
Boater Tanya Pothoff said, "we put the covers up on the boats and hung out. We invited friends down and just tried to make the best of it I guess. "
Memorial Day Weekend is the money maker marina owners dream of all winter long. Boaters typically spend time and money on drinks and dinner at the Yardarm.
Yardarm Manager Katie Leifker said, "Normally Memorial Day Weekend the deck would be full and it would be crazy busy in here. "
On a typical holiday weekend owners say they fill about 100 boat tanks with gas. This weekend they filled.one.
"This has hurt us. It has," said Leifker.
A break in the rain Monday afternoon had several parade go-ers hoping to salvage what was left of the long weekend.
Jude Herrig said, "We are going to at least get out of the house and go to the parade. So this is our weekend."
