CLINTON, Iowa - The 40th version of the Register's Annual Bicycle Ride Across Iowa featured some extreme conditions, including temperatures around 100 degrees and 16,000 feet of climbing.

The 471-mile route started in Sioux Center and made its first overnight stop in Cedar Rapids in 22 years. Other stops included Marshalltown, Anamosa, Cherokee, and Lake View.

It was the last leg, though, that brought a bit of humor as riders tried to pronounce the town of Charlotte's name correctly. For many who came, the intense heat was well worth the trip.
