MANCHESTER, Iowa - RAGBRAI riders, all 10,000-15,000 of them, rolled into Manchester throughout the day, marking the sixth day of their trip across the state.
They got there after pedaling more than 60 miles from Waterloo.
So much planning went into tonight’s event, the first overnight in 11 years, but some are still working through last week’s flooding.
Just three blocks from where RAGBRAI really packs Manchester, the family that runs a fruit and vegetable store is still cleaning up from last week’s flooding.
"We are getting used to it but it’s a pain every time. Four feet of water inside is never good,” said Dan Cole.
Cole said all the water that filled the store ruined their plans to sell lots of MIssouri peaches.
One week after the flooding the Maqueketa River is quiet but Main Street isn't.
After six days of riding, it’s time to loosen up old joints and for others to let loose. With riders settled in for the last night, expect a long night for law enforcement just in case.
"We have 25 uniformed officers between the campground and the entertainment area we are well staffed," said Bruce Trapp, Manchester Police Chief.
"Certain groups and ages will be out here for a while probably until midnight and they will taper off we hope at 2 o'clock.”
