DES MOINES, Iowa - Des Moines police said Tuesday morning that missing RAGBRAI rider Eric Malmstrom has been found alive.

Police said Malmstrom was found near a bike trail at Grand Avenue and 63rd Street about 10:15 a.m. He has been reunited with his family.

Malmstrom was physically unhurt, police said.

Family and friends had been searching for the 43-year-old after he disappeared last Saturday night in downtown Des Moines.

Malmstrom's family arrived to Des Moines on Monday from Minnesota to join the search.

His RAGBRAI teammates have posted hundreds of flyers downtown in hopes of generating leads.

"We just need to find him," Malmstrom's sister, Kari Malmstrom Gilpatric, said.

Investigators said Malmstrom had finished with the race Saturday afternoon and headed to the Court Avenue Entertainment District about 7 p.m. when he disappeared.

The Malmstrom family said they suspect mental illness may be to blame.
