Prospect Meadows Raises More Than Half of Fundraising Goal

By Kayleigh Milas

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Prospect Meadows kicked off the public phase of its capital fundraising campaign today.

The non-profit group wants to raise $4.2 million to build a complex of 17 baseball and softball fields near Marion. The project would be near the intersection of Highway 13 and County Home Road.

The group announced Thursday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids that private donations of $2.6 million have already helped push the campaign past the halfway mark.

In addition to the fields, the complex will feature a recreational lake, walking trail, gardens and play areas.

"It's really a quality of life issue. Baseball and softball are so important for the kids and there is such camaraderie with it," Prospect Meadows President Jack Roeder said.

The complex is expected to be finished in 2016.
