Prosecutors Say Former Iowa County Treasurer Admitted To Stealing
By Mark Carlson, Reporter
IOWA COUNTY, Iowa - A criminal complaint released Thursday by the Iowa County Sheriff's office says a former county treasurer and board of supervisors member admitted to stealing from the county. Kim Tanke of Williamsburg was arrested and charged with 1st degree theft on Thursday.
"During the calendar years of 2006 to 2010, the defendant diverted $62,397 of cash receipts for her own personal use," the complaint states. "The defendant did admit to current Iowa County Auditor that she was responsible for the missing funds."
Tanke served as the county treasurer from 1999 until 2010. She later was elected to the board of supervisors, until her sudden resignation last week.
Her resignation letter submitted on January 20 was just two sentences in length.
"Please accept this as my formal resignation as Iowa County Supervisor," the letter read. "I have personal matters to attend to."
Tanke has been released from jail pending future legal proceedings, according to the Sheriff's office.
