WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - A former employee accused of stealing $12,000 in artifacts from the Cedar Falls Historical Society museum has been given probation.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier says a judge on Friday sentenced David Arnold, of Waterloo, to 10 years in prison, but suspended it to two to five years. The judge ordered Arnold to spend a year at a residential facility. He will remain in custody until a bed is available at the center.
Authorities say Arnold took guns, bayonets and other items from the museum, where he worked as a janitor.
The museum reported the theft in April. Arnold was charged in May.
