Prison Guard Fired for Kicking Inmate
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A state corrections worker shown in a prison video kicking an inmate says he's contesting his firing for using excessive force.
The video, obtained by The Des Moines Register, shows Michael Scott, of Montrose, taking an inmate to his cell at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison, backing up a step and kicking the prisoner. The video is dated Nov. 9. Scott was fired in December. The newspaper reported Wednesday that the incident came to light on the heels of an assault on a prison guard last week and ongoing debates between union representatives and state officials over staffing levels in Iowa prisons. Scott declined to comment on the incident on Wednesday, but says the state workers union is contesting his firing. Most Popular
