DUBUQUE, Iowa - The mother of a Dubuque toddler who died in November says she needs to speak to the man police say killed her son.
On Wednesday, Kylee Vandermuelen asked a judge to lift a no contact order between her and her former boyfriend Nicholas Reed. Vandermuelen says she is pregnant with Reed's baby and needs to communicate with him regarding that pregnancy.
Investigators said Reed was babysitting two-year-old Bentley Randall while Vandermuelen was at work. In November, a witness told police she overheard what sounded like Bentley's head hitting the bathtub while Reed and the boy were locked in a bathroom together.
Doctors said Bentley died from blunt force trauma to the head.
