IOWA CITY, Iowa - Polls in Johnson County will remain open despite school closures, according to Johnson County chairperson Janelle Rettig.

The county is holding a special election to fill previous supervisor Sally Stutsman’s seat, who was recently elected to the Iowa House of Representatives.

Rettig said she hoped the election would pull around 10 thousand votes, but as of 10 a.m. Tuesday just over 2 thousand people have voted.

Voters are choosing between candidates Terry Dahms (D) and John Etheredge (R).

Polls will be open until 9 p.m. Tuesday.
