Police Take Man into Custody After Standoff
MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) — Muscatine police took a man into custody after a four-hour standoff at an apartment.
The Muscatine Journal reports the incident began about noon Friday when a caller reported a fight between two men in an intersection and that one man had a gun. The caller then told police the armed man went into an apartment.
Officers took positions around the apartment. Periodically, they knocked on the apartment door and tried to coax the person out.
About 2 p.m., authorities blocked a section of a street, and officers later fired several rounds of tear gas through a window, forcing the man inside to emerge with his hands up.
Police took the man into custody and held him to the county jail. He hadn't been charged by Friday evening.
