Police Say Coralville Man Threatened Ex With Loaded Gun

CORALVILLE, Iowa -- A Coralville man has been accused of kidnapping after assaulting his ex-girlfriend for 30 minutes and holding a loaded gun to her head.
According to a Coralville police complaint, on Oct. 4, Ryan J. Beck, 21, of 931 22nd Ave., forced his ex-girlfriend into the bathroom at his apartment and locked her in. Police said while in the bathroom, Beck assaulted the woman for 30 minutes while holding a loaded handgun. Beck also allegedly held the gun to the woman's head and threatened to kill her.
Lt. Shane Kron said the assault eventually de-escalated and Beck let the woman go. At the urging of her family and coworkers, the woman reported the incident to police. A warrant for Beck's arrest was served on Oct. 7, according to court records.
Beck has been arrested and charged with second-degree kidnapping, a class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison. According to court records, Beck posted a $60,000 surety bond and is no longer in custody. He has been ordered not to have contact with the alleged victim.
