Police Officer, Suspect Shot Following Armed Robbery

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa - Marshalltown police said Friday that two men have been arrested and charged in connection with a credit union robbery, chase and shooting.

Ben Crisantos, 22, of Marshalltown, was charged with attempted murder.

Abel Ramirez, 22, of Marshalltown, was charged with first-degree robbery.

Capt. Brian Batterson said the shooting happened after the holdup at the Lennox Credit Union at 1004 East Main St. at about 9:30 a.m.

Batterson said Crisantos fired at the Officer Jefferson during a short chase after the robbery, hitting the officer in the leg. The officer returned fire, hitting the Crisantos.

The chase and shooting happened in a residential neighborhood.

The officer and Crisantos were taken to Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Both men were treated and released from the hospital.

Crisantos and Ramirez are being held in the Marshall County Jail.

Marshalltown police, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and FBI are continuing to gather evidence, talk with witnesses and work the crime scene.
