MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa - Police released new information Tuesday morning in a shooting case at an apartment in Marshalltown on Monday night.

Police said they were called to 19 1/2 N. Center St. at 6:55 p.m. on a report of a man who had just been shot, just across the street from the police station at 22 N. Center St.

Officers said they found Benjamin Benda, 39, shot in the head. Benda was taken to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center and then moved to the University of Iowa Hospitals.

Benda's brother told the Times Republican newspaper on Tuesday afternoon that Benda had died. Police said Benda died about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said three people were identified in the investigation and two tracked down in Osceola.

Steven Etzen, 27, Shawn Doehler, 23, were arrested in Osceola and charged with first-degree robbery in the case. They were taken to the Clarke County Jail.

Police said two other people were taken into custody as material witnesses: T.J. Vaughn, 28, and Melissa Andrews, 44, both of Marshalltown.

The investigation into the shooting is continuing and more charges are expected, police said.
