Police: Man Admits to Killing, Hiding Body in Basement

SAC CITY, Iowa —Sac City police said a man living in Florida has been arrested and charged in the murder of Mark Koster in June 2009.

KCCI-TV reports that John Green, 54, was interviewed in connection with the case by the Sac City police investigators and agents of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

He has been charged with first-degree murder, and is expected to be returned soon to Iowa to face the charges.

Koster's family filed a missing person's report in 2010 after not hearing from him for several months.

Koster was declared dead in 2011. In November 2012, he was found dead in the basement of his home when it was being sold.

Investigators said Green lived with Koster for a short time in 2009 before moving to Orlando, Florida.

Investigators said during the interview, Green claimed responsibility for Koster's death and for hiding his body.

In 2012, investigators told KCCI that dental records confirmed that the skeletal remains found buried in the basement were those of Mark Koster.

Police said Koster's remains were found by the new homeowner who was doing some work in the basement.
