Police: Living Center Worker Left Residents

MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) - An employee at a Mason City living center has been accused of abandoning residents during an early morning shift.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Office says 54-year-old Debra Jean Ihrig, of Rudd, was arrested Sunday. She faces six counts of neglect or abandonment of a dependent person and nine counts of wanton neglect of a dependent adult.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports Ihrig is accused of leaving 15 residents at County Meadow Place Assisted Living alone during the early morning hours of Saturday. She was the only staff person on duty during those hours.

Cerro County Jail records say Ihrig remained in custody on Monday. Online court records do not list an attorney.

Additional case details haven't been released. Authorities say more charges are possible.
