CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Police in Cedar rapids are investigating a sexual assault of a 3-year-old boy that was reported over the weekend.
Officers were called to St. Luke’s Hospital around 6:45 p.m. Saturday, where they spoke to the boy’s mother. The alleged incident happened earlier in the day Saturday at a residence in the 3100 block of Sixth Street SW, police said.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said the suspect is a person who is known to the family, but declined to elaborate. No one has been arrested in the case, and no charges have been filed.
Hamblin said the boy would be interviewed by a therapist with the St. Luke’s Child Protection Center, while police observe. She said their staff is trained to interview young children about such sensitive topics.
“The main goal is to make sure the child is okay,” Hamblin said.
No other details were released. An investigation is continuing.
