Police Investigate Robbery at Iowa City Sex Shop
IOWA CITY, Iowa - Police are investigating a report of a robbery at Romantix adult shop, 315 Kirkwood Ave. in Iowa City.
Police say it happened September 21st. A release from the department said a heavy-set while male wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with paint smears on it came into the store with his hood up and made small talk with a female employee as he approached the check-out counter at 7:40 p.m. The female employee told police the man then blocked her in and demanded money from the cash register, to which she complied.
After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, the release said the man fled the store. Though police searched the area following the call, he could not be located.
The woman was not injured, and told police she was unsure whether the man was armed.
The employee described the suspect as a white, 6'0" male between 30 and 40 years old weighing 215 to 250 pounds with stubble facial hair.
The incident marks the second time the store has been robbed this year, following a similar incident in which a male subject made small talk with a female employee before displaying a hunting knife and stealing a $250 sex doll. In that incident, which occurred in January, reports said the man chased the female clerk around before she ran out of the store.
Iowa City police could not immediately be reached for comment regarding whether an arrest was ever made in the January incident.
