Police Investigate Bottle Bomb on Trail

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - West Des Moines police are investigating the discovery of a detonated homemade bottle bomb in the tunnel of a popular recreational trail.

West Des Moines Police Lt. Jim Barrett says a Parks and Recreation worker found the device Monday afternoon in a tunnel that's part of the Jordan Creek Trail. The worker collected the remains of the device and brought it to a department facility. Police were called in Tuesday morning.

Barrett says it's unclear when the device denoted. Both police and fire officials are investigating.
