CEDAR RAPIDS - Police have taken about 10 tips on Tuesday’s bank robbery in southwest Cedar Rapids, with one name coming up multiple times.
“We’re getting some names,” Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said. “And the same name has come up (multiple times).”
Hamblin said half the tips came in Tuesday, after news broke about the hold-up at Bank of the West, 3730 Williams Blvd. SW. She said investigators received another five or six tips Wednesday.
Police said the unarmed man got away with an undisclosed amount of cash after he passed a note to a teller around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday. No one was hurt.
The suspect was last seen driving east in a dark-colored Chevrolet Trailblazer on Williams Boulevard SW, witnesses told police.
He is described as a white male, about 5-foot-9 and 200 pounds, with an athletic build. He was wearing a white, long-sleeved, button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled up and a white baseball hat, police said. Both the shirt and the hat had some type of design on them.
Hamblin on Tuesday mentioned the possibility that a traffic camera at the corner of Williams Boulevard and 16th Avenue SW might have recorded the suspect’s vehicle, but by Wednesday afternoon, she had not heard of any footage that was useful.
Anyone with information is asked to call Linn County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-CR-CRIME.
