Police Identify Man Killed in Iowa Falls Standoff

    IOWA FALLS, Iowa - Authorities have released new details and the name of the man who police shot and killed during a standoff in Iowa Falls Thursday.

    The state Department of Public Safety says it happened at the man's home at 413 College Avenue Thursday afternoon.

    Officers say 25-year-old Leighton Fitz was wearing a bullet proof vest and armed with several weapons when he walked out of his house.

    Police say Fitz reached for a weapon and refused to drop it when ordered. They say that's when officers fired multiple shots at Fitz, killing him.

    Authorities say they later found multiple loaded weapons and a gas mask inside the home. There also were threats toward officers posted on Fitz's Facebook page.

    The Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy.
