CORALVILLE, Iowa -- Police said they discovered a Coralville man passed out in a running car.
The car was in reverse and the man’s foot was on the brake, police said.
University of Iowa police officers responded to the Capitol Street parking ramp at 3:44 a.m. Sunday and found 22-year-old Jon D. Roupe passed out in a car. Police said the car was running.
Officers removed the keys from the ignition while the car was in reverse. Police said Roupe took his foot off the brake, causing the car to move backward. Officers were able to shift the car into park.
Police said Roupe had vomited on himself, smelled of alcohol and admitted to drinking. He also failed field sobriety tests and submitted to a pre-arrest breath test that showed he had a blood-alcohol content of .198 percent. A post-arrest test showed Roupe’s blood-alcohol content had elevated to .210 percent.
Roupe was charged with drunk driving.
