CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- A Cedar Rapids man is accused of leading police on a chase in a stolen truck.
According to information in a Linn County Attorney's Office criminal complaint, 27-year-old Kyle L. Combs stole a 1994 Toyota pickup belonging to Jerry Chuites parked in the alley between D and C avenues NE around 2:19 a.m. Monday. When Cedar Rapids police officers attempted to pull over Combs, he sped away, leading officers on a high speed chase.
Police said the chase topped the speed limit by 25 mph at times.
During the chase, Combs threw a bag of shredded and stripped lithium batteries from the vehicle. Lithium battery strips are used to manufacture methamphetamine.
The chase eventually came to an end, but police said Combs fled from the vehicle. He was apprehended by officers.
Police said they found items used to manufacture meth on Combs, as well as meth and marijuana. His license is also suspended.
The criminal complaint charges Combs with possession of a precursor to meth, attempt to elude, operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent, possession of meth, possession of marijuana, driving while suspended, possession of drug paraphernalia and interference with official acts.
