CEDAR RAPIDS — Two men were arrested Wednesday night after officers said they witnessed a drug sale involving around 60 grams of crack cocaine.

Cedar Rapids police Lt. Dominic Wibe said officers were on bike patrol on 1st Avenue Southwest when they saw a two-subject drug exchange in an alley between Cooters bar, 729 1st Ave. SW, and a vacant building.

Officers immediately arrested one man, who was identified as the drug buyer, but the other man, who officers believe was the seller, ran from authorities, Wibe said. The man ran a short distance and threw a baggie filled with about 60 grams of crack cocaine over a fence at the nearby A-1 Rental.

After officers caught the man, he was arrested without a struggle, Wibe said.

Both men will be charged with delivering a controlled substance, he said.
