Polar Plunge Raises Funds for Special Olympics

PALO, Iowa - Armed with undeniable raw courage, eastern Iowans plunged into the frigid Pleasant Creek in Palo Saturday.

It's all to raise money for Special Olympics Iowa.

KCRG-TV9 Show You Care is a sponsor, along with several other area organizations plus local law enforcement.

It's 1 of 13 plunges happening across the state.

"It was fine at first. I was running and jumped in the water, which was just like..whoah..because it's so cold. I went under water and froze all the way through it and got out and it was fine," said participant Taylor Bennett.

The plungers with the best costumes won prizes. Even those too timid to plunge jumped in on the fun, raising money to support Special Olympics Iowa.

The organization provides year-round sports training and competition for 11,000 Iowans.
