Plans to Redevelop Cedar Rapids' Westdale Mall Moving Forward
By Forrest Saunders, Reporter
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Plans to redevelop Cedar Rapids' Westdale Mall will move forward. Demolition and renovation were at a standstill after J.C. Penney rejected proposed changes to the mall.
The store is considered an "anchor store" at the mall and its lease gives it the right to approve or reject physical changes to the rest of the mall.
Frew Development tells KCRG.com said it's reached an agreement with J.C. Penney on terms of moving forward. Frew said they expect to sign a new lease agreement with the store in the next week or two.
Redevelopment in the area may includes new stores, condos, and a hotel.
