DES MOINES, Iowa — A petition calling for Iowa to secede from the United States has appeared on www.whitehouse.gov.

The petition has 1,830 signatures as of 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Some 25,000 signatures are needed by Dec. 11 for the petition to be evaluated by the administration.

The petition was created by Frank C. (no last name provided) and signed by people mostly outside the state of Iowa.

It's part of an effort started on the site after the election on the White House's "We The People" petition website. Some 40 states now have secession petitions on the site.

Petitions must have 25,000 signatures in 30 days to be reviewed by the administration.
