CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Crews worked to tear down a church building that's more than 100 years old on Monday morning. The People's Church on Third Avenue and Sixth Street SE dates back 140 years. The church was demolished because it had mold and structural problems. The congregation moved to a new location in southwest Cedar Rapids last summer.

The former People’s Church has become the first building in Cedar Rapids listed on the National Register of Historic Places to be demolished, without having been damaged by fire or natural disaster.
