People Pitch In During Day of Service
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Several congregations from around Cedar Rapids came together to help out all across Linn County, Sunday.
Parishioners with Westminster Presbyterian, First Presbyterian and First Congregational-United Church of Christ came together for a day of service. More than 150 volunteers spread out to help with various projects. The churches held shortened services today to encourage people to get out and help. One of the places people came out was at the Indian Creek Nature Center in Cedar Rapids. This group scoured the area for dozens of seed types, which will be stored and replanted at other places later.
"There's probably 25 to 30 that people will be collecting today that are easy to find out here and easy to identify," Land Steward Jean Wiedenheft said.
Other volunteer groups helped pickup trash along county roads, weeded and mulched at area schools, and helped at Habitat for Humanity projects.
