Passenger In Hit-and-Run Crash Dies
WINDSOR HEIGHTS, Iowa - A passenger in a truck that rolled over during a hit-and-run crash last Sunday has died, Windsor Heights police said.
Police said Anita Gummert, 50, of Marshalltown, passed away Thursday morning.
The three-vehicle crash happened at 5 p.m. in the 6400 block of I-235 westbound. The crash closed the interstate for a half hour.
The crash involved a PT Cruiser, Nissan Maxima, and Ford Ranger pickup.
Police said it was believed that the PT Cruiser sideswiped the Maxima, which then drove the Maxima into the side of the Ranger truck, causing a rollover.
Police said the PT Cruiser did not remain at the scene.
Witnesses told police that the PT Cruiser and the Maxima had been racing and driving at a high rate of speed.
The driver of the Maxima, Lucas Isleman, 28, of Des Moines, was charged with first-offense OWI.
Tuesday, police said the driver of the PT Cruiser has been identified and located.
The crash remains under investigation. Police said charges are pending.
