ATLANTIC, Iowa (AP) — Some parents in Atlantic in southwest Iowa who are upset over a bullying incident have pulled their children out of class.
KCCI-TV in Des Moines says the parents kept their children home from the middle school on Monday. They are calling for tougher punishment after a student allegedly stabbed other students with a pencil.
The student received an in-school, two-day suspension.
Parent Tanya Swagel says if her son is not comfortable going to school, he's not going. Another parent, Randall Whitt, says he and some other families are considering legal action.
Many parents complained about the incident during last week's school board meeting. The board took the comments under advisement, but took no action.
Superintendent Michael Amstein said the punishment was appropriate.
