Paint Color a Loophole for Iowa Bus Inspection
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A new paint job has let a child care center avoid another tough Iowa inspection of the center's school bus.
The Des Moines Register reports the Little Miracles Children's Center in Indianola had its bus painted a different shade of yellow. That let the center take advantage of a loophole in Iowa's bus inspection law, which allows the bus to be inspected by a private company instead of the state, all because the paint change made it a commercial vehicle.
The state inspectors had flagged the bus 24 times for needed repairs.
Little Miracles vice president Larry Collins says most of the repairs were minor and were done almost immediately.
Collins says the bus passed the private inspection and that the center is not jeopardizing child safety.
