Oxford Junction Woman Pleads Guilty to FEMA Benefits Fraud

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A woman who lied to the Federal Emergency Management Agency in an application to get disaster benefits following the June 2008 flood pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court.

Jessica Hines, 32, of Oxford Junction, pleaded guilty to one count of disaster benefits fraud. In a plea agreement, Hines admitted to submitting a fraudulent application to FEMA for benefits July 28, 2008. Hines admitted she falsely claimed she lived at a specific residence in Oxford Junction at the time of the flood and that her home and personal property were damaged.

Hines faces up to 30 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing hasn't been set at this time.
