MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa - Our Town Mount Pleasant is home to the Henry County Health Center, a place creating community for those at the center and growing for the future, Shelley Doak, Henry County Health Center public information officer, said

One of the features of the health center is Park Place Elder Living. This is a 49 bed long-term care facility. Doak said it's a place where elders can not only receive care but also meet and converse with others through activities.

The health center also is focused on the health of the general community, Doak said. Two programs are helping the health center do this, Public Health and Healthy Henry County Communities.

Public Health promotes physical and mental health and preventing disease, injury and disability. Healthy Henry County Communities is about bringing people together through volunteers, community leaders and educators to help build a stronger healthier community.

The Henry County Health Center has also finished phase one of three in a construction and remodeling project, Doak said The first phase was building the Energy Center. The Energy Center will eventually provide all of the electrical, heating and cooling supply for the organization.

Phase two will be getting all of the items the Energy Center needs to operate. The third phase will be constructing a new surgery department and remodeling the outpatient area.

Henry County Health Center just celebrated 90 years, and Doak said she the center is looking forward to serving the community for years to come.
