Osterberg Stepping Down as Iowa Policy Project Director

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) The founder of an Iowa policy think tank known for analyzing economic issues says he is stepping down after 12 years.

The Iowa Policy Project announced Monday that David Osterberg will give up his duties as executive director but stay at the group to conduct research on environmental and energy policy.

He will be succeeded by Mike Owen, who has been the group's assistant director since 2001.

A University of Iowa professor of Occupational and Environmental Health, Osterberg served as a Democratic lawmaker from Mount Vernon before founding the group, which has produced studies on everything from wind energy to tax policy. He says he's proud that its work has influenced debates in Des Moines and helped inform citizens.

The group is nonpartisan but has ties to organized labor.
