WATERLOO, Iowa - Operation Threshold officials are warning residents of possible fraudulent activity in regard to Operation Thaw.

The agency in a news release said it has received reports of contractors claiming to be with Operation Thaw and offering to thaw resident's pipes. The resident would then be reimbursed for the work.

But Operation Thaw doesn't go door to door offering to thaw pipes, according to the executive director.

Clients contact the agency, get approved, and then are given a list of approved contractors, said Barbara Grant. The client selects a contractor, Operation Threshold authorizes the work, and then pays the contractor directly, she said.

Residents with questions about Operation Thaw should call (319) 292-1868.
