MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Iowa One woman is dead after a crash involving a deer in Montgomery County Wednesday night.

Officials responded to a wreck near mile marker 44 on Highway 34 at about 7:15 p.m. Shawnna M. Curtis, 26, of Creston, was traveling eastbound on Highway 34 when a deer entered the roadway.

Authorities said the deer collided with the vehicle, came through the windshield and hit Curtis. The SUV continued eastbound on Highway 34, left the roadway and entered the north ditch and rolled once. Curtis was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

The only other passenger was a 9-year-old female, who was transported by life flight to Creighton Hospital, authorities said. Her condition is unknown. Both occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
