WATERLOO, Iowa - One person is dead following an early morning motorcycle crash in Waterloo. Police say the crash happened at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1900 block of Bishop Avenue.

According to police the single-vehicle crash sent both the driver and a passenger to an area hospital. The passenger later died as a result of the injuries sustained during the accident.

Police have released the names of those invovled in the crash. Kevin Michael Miller, 23, of Shell Rock was driving the motorcycle when he lost control and went off the road. Miller is being treated for a head injury and broken bones. Miller's passenger, Nichole Marie Averhoff, 19, of Waverly died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Waterloo police say neither were wearing a helmet. Officers say witnesses stated the motorcycle was driving too fast and lost control.
