Officials Release Name of Man Killed in Crash Near Balltown

DUBUQUE COUNTY, Iowa - Authorities have released the name of a man killed in an accident near Balltown on Saturday afternoon. The crash happened around 3:20 p.m. along Balltown Road, about a mile south of Balltown.

The Dubuque County Sheriff's Department says the trailer portion of a northbound semi-trailer broke off from the semi, colliding with a southbound vehicle. The driver of the southbound vehicle, Mark Kerper, 55, of Ames, was taken to Mercy Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

His passenger, Russell Kerper, 45, of Dubuque, and the driver of the semi, John Bahl, 73, of Sherrill, were not injured.

An investigation into the accident continues.
