One Person Killed, Three Injured in Clayton County Crash

    GARNAVILLO, Iowa - An 88-year-old man is dead following an accident on Highway 52 in northern Garnavillo City just after 3 p.m. Sunday.

    According to an accident report, Lyle Iverson of Rock Island, Ill. was driving his 1997 Mercury south on Highway 52 when he crossed the center line while traveling north, striking an Oldsmobile driven by Elizabeth Simon of Guttenberg car head-on.

    The report said Iverson was pronounced dead at the scene. Simon, 25, was taken to a hospital in Guttenberg before being transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

    Two other passengers in Simon's vehicle, Tammy Allbee, 38, and Nathan Scherbring, 27, were also treated for injuries at Guttenberg Hospital. Iverson, as well as Simon and her passengers, were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.
