Officials Saw Off Top of Car to Remove Woman Safely Following Crash
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - One woman was injured after a crash near the Blairs Ferry Walmart Friday afternoon, police said.
Officials responded to a two vehicle accident at the intersection of 10th Avenue and Blairs Ferry Road around 2:45 p.m. According to police, a car driven by an 86-year-old female was traveling eastbound on Blairs Ferry Road when a truck attempting to make a left turn at the 10th Avenue stoplight collided with the car. Police said the woman appeared to have "run a red light." The woman was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries, no one else was injured, authorities said.
The driver of the truck, a 38-year-old male, did not have a valid drivers license and will receive the appropriate citation, police said. Officials on scene had to remove the top of the car with a saw to extricate the woman safely. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
