Northwest Iowa Man Pleads Guilty In Beating Death
SPENCER, Iowa (AP) — A 21-year-old man has made a deal and pleaded guilty in the beating death of another northwest Iowa man.
Sioux City station KTIV reports that Christopher Fitzpatrick admitted in court on Monday that he beat 59-year-old Edward Kitto and stole money from his wallet. Kitto was found unresponsive in the backyard of a Spencer home on Aug. 27 and died days later at a hospital.
Fitzpatrick pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and a drug conspiracy count after prosecutors dropped murder and robbery charges. The deal includes a sentence of 45 years in prison.
Sentencing is scheduled for May 10.
Authorities say Fitzpatrick's alleged accomplice, 21-year-old Cody Millard, has pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge. Court records say his trial is scheduled to begin on June 25.
