EAGLE GROVE, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a woman is charged with first-degree murder in the death of a 5-year-old girl from Eagle Grove in northern Iowa.
Officials say 20-year-old Kara Crapser was arrested on Tuesday in Lehigh. She's charged in the death of Mikayla Valentine in January. An autopsy shows she died of abusive head trauma.
Jessica Lown of the Iowa Department of Public Safety says Crapser was involved in a relationship with the child's father. Lown did not have any details on the circumstances surrounding the girl's death.
Crapser is being held in the Wright County jail in Clarion on $500,000 bond. Her initial court appearance is set for Wednesday. Jail officials did not know if she had an attorney.
